My name is Liu Yu, a graduate student in chemistry. It looks like the wiki site doesn't work very well with my konqueror. Firefox seems ok, but a little bit slow. Feels like typing in a terminal through dial-up connection.
I hope this course will save me a lot of effort in the future when I try to analyze my data more efficiently by choosing the right method and tool. Not all the experimentalists realize the important of escience, which is sort of frustrating sometimes. It's not uncommon for some of my colleague to spend several days doing repetitive image manipulation without thinking about devoting several hours to write a script. Someone once tried to convince me that this is not as bad as it sounds, because it only took 4 mouse clicks to finish processing one image in photoshop ...
Of course, escience is more than scripts. For me, I hope it can liberate me from doing repetitive jobs. Hopefully I can also enjoy the process of computation.
